While it's not a topic that many women discuss one of the topics that was mentioned in my survey before I launched the site was that of feminine odor.
We've probably all encountered this problem once or twice. Sweating, sex and menstruation all change the pH in the vaginal area and can lead to an odor. Some women are reluctant to allow their partner to perform oral sex because they worry about the way they smell.
There are all sorts of products available to help alleviate feminine odor but in reality the natural pH balance of the area when it is clean should take care of any foul odors. Douches, feminine wipes and scented products can just make the problem worse by changing the pH or even introducing bacteria to the area.
Most gynecologists recommend nothing more than washing with a gentle soap to clean your vaginal area. There are also some natural products you can use to keep the area pH balanced.
Rather than purchasing scented cleansers try simply wiping the area with a cloth dipped in white vinegar if you detect an odor. Vinegar is a natural antibacterial, removes odors and helps maintain the natural acidity of the vaginal area without drying or irritation. (The vinegar smell fades quickly.)
Another home remedy is to apply a dollop of plain yogurt with active cultures to the area and allow it to sit for several minutes. The active culture is good bacteria which will help balance the condition of the area and is even an effective method to treat yeast growth.
There's no need to worry about vaginal odors if you avoid the smelly products that claim to be made for that problem. Keep it natural and simple when dealing with your feminine area and you'll find that odor isn't a problem.
